Event co-chair Lori Duester emailed this morning to report that the relay also donated 5,627 pounds of food to the Emergency Food Network. The food came from a change this year to the annual luminaria ceremony. Instead of filling the luminaria bags with sand, canned food formed the base and held the candles.

The power failure that plunged the Super Bowl into darkness and halted play for more than a half-hour Sunday was caused by a device installed specifically to prevent a blackout.
The U.S. Postal Service will be collecting food as a part of its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
On Saturday, community members can leave canned food donations in their mailboxes. The donations will be collected by letter carriers and donated to local food banks.
Canned soup, meats, fish, vegetables, fruits and juices, boxed goods, pasta and rice are needed.
The festivities will be Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cabela's and local conservation and sporting organizations are hosting a variety of activities for the whole family, including free seminars, meet and greets with local groups, live music, two Boise food trucks and more.
The third season of Reel NW will include a film that looks at four teams competing in the largest relay race.
