Motorcyclist goes over embankment, hits tree in Elbe

A motorcyclist died Tuesday after driving off an embankment and striking a tree in Elbe.

A motorcyclist died Tuesday after driving off an embankment and striking a tree in Elbe.

The Washington State Patrol identified the man as Michael P. Anikusko, 29, of Graham.

Anikusko was heading west on state Route 706 toward state Route 7 when he missed a curve and went off the road, the WSP reported. After going over an embankment, his 2008 Suzuki GSXR750 hit a tree and a rock.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers are investigating what caused Anikusko to lose control.

    BELLINGHAM - A Glacier woman crashed her van into the side of a house Tuesday afternoon, April 30, near Mount Baker Highway.

    Sharin J. Lutsch, 49, told Washington State Patrol troopers she blacked out at 1:20 p.m. as she drove east past the highway's intersection with Mission Road. Tire marks in the grass stretched about 200 feet from the point she left the highway, dipped over a dirt embankment, coasted - on a straight path - through a 30-foot gap in two trees and plowed into the west side of a house, hitting its two-car garage at 2544 Mount Baker Highway.

    "I went outside and saw the garage door was all bowed out," said homeowner John Kehres. "I thought there was an explosion inside."

    PENDLETON -- Nine people died when a Canadian tour bus crashed through a guardrail on icy Interstate 84 near the top of Cabbage Hill east of Pendleton on Sunday morning.

    The bus, with an estimated 40 people on board, slid more than 100 feet down a steep embankment, coming to rest upright in a ravine.

    At least 26 people on the bus, including adults and children, were injured. Rescue workers used ropes to help bring bus passengers up the hillside from the wreckage to the roadway.
