Bobcats trim coach list to 3
The Charlotte Bobcats are inching closer to naming a new coach after trimming their search to three finalists – Brian Shaw, Jerry Sloan and former Missouri coach and Mercer Island High star Quin Snyder – said a person familiar with the situation.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team has not made its list of candidates public.
Eliminated from consideration were Orlando assistant coach Patrick Ewing, Charlotte assistant Stephen Silas, ex-Portland and Seattle SuperSonics coach Nate McMillan, Golden State assistant Michael Malone, Cleveland assistant Nate Tibbetts, Memphis assistant Dave Joerger and St. John’s University assistant Mike Dunlap.
TIMBERWOLVES TEST HOME-GROWN STAR
Royce White worked out for the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday and said he’s hoping his hometown team drafts him with the 18th overall pick.
White played in high school in the Minneapolis suburb of Hopkins and enrolled at the University of Minnesota before a series of run-ins off the court led him to transfer to Iowa State.
The Wolves also worked out Minnesota native Jordan Taylor, a point guard from Wisconsin, and Michigan State forward Draymond Green, among others.
LIL WAYNE COURTSIDE
After much ado, Lil Wayne is finally going to see an NBA playoff game in Oklahoma City.
Thunder spokesman Dan Mahoney says the rapper bought a pair of courtside seats and was expected to attend Game 1 of the NBA Finals between Oklahoma City and the Miami Heat on Tuesday.
Lil Wayne caused a stir during the Western Conference finals when he posted on Twitter that the Thunder wouldn’t let him into their arena, with the team saying simply that he needed to buy tickets if he wanted to come.
