Man driving 120 mph near Grand Mound was late for work, State Patrol says

A man accused of driving 120 mph down Interstate 5 Wednesday morning told police he was late for work.
A Washington State Patrol trooper was removing debris from the road in the northbound lane of Interstate 5 near Grand Mound at 7:45 a.m. when saw a 1992 Acura Integra drive by at a high rate of speed, according to Trooper Guy Gill.
"He could hear this vehicle approaching," Gill said. "He jumped in his car, activated his radar and clocked the vehicle at 114 mph."
The trooper went after the speeding car and checked the driver's speed a second time. This time the radar read 120 mph, Gill said.
After pulling the 18-year-old Rochester driver over, the trooper asked why he was speeding.
"The driver's excuse for his excessive speed was that he was late for work," Gill said.
Gill said the driver was booked in Thurston County Jail for aggressive driving. The car was impounded.
