Pierce County sheriff’s detectives Thursday were searching for a stolen service dog and the three people suspected of dog-napping.
The dog is a 3-year-old, black-and-white, Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix named Oreo.
He was taken May 19 after his owner, who has a traumatic brain injury, attended a baseball game at Sprinker Recreation Facility on C Street South.
The three thieves approached the man about 2 p.m., chatted with him and played with Oreo, deputies said. When the man left the fields, the three drove up to him in the parking lot, grabbed the dog and sped away.
Oreo’s owner had to drop the dog’s leash because he feared he’d be dragged across the parking lot.
The thieves were two men and a woman, all in their early 20s, driving a dark blue, four-door sedan, possibly a Honda, deputies said.
