The director of the North Seattle Boys & Girls Club’s teen program has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 17-year-old volunteer at the club.
Police say the man, 28, who has not yet been criminally charged, has been the director of the club’s teen program since 2008 and had known and mentored the teenaged victim since she was in middle school.
Investigators with the Seattle Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit say the inappropriate contact between the man and victim began in March 2011, when he and the girl were on an out-of-state club trip. The man allegedly told the girl “he was falling in love with her,” according to a report posted on the department’s online blotter.
The sexual relationship began five months later, police report, when the man and girl attended attended a baseball game together.
Police say the man then “asked her if she wanted to be his girlfriend, and then took her to a Renton hotel and had sex with her.”
The relationship continued from at least August through November, according to police, who allege that the man had sex with the girl at hotels in Seattle and Portland and on occasions when he gave the girl rides home from the Boys & Girl’s club.
While the age of consent in Washington state is 16, it is against the law for a teacher or anyone else in a position of power to have sexual relations with anyone younger than 18.
