SPANAWAY: Deputies who fatally shot man identified
Last updated: June 16th, 2012 12:20 AM (PDT)

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has identified the two deputies who shot and killed a man who rammed their patrol car with a stolen truck June 7.

Jason Bray, 34, and James Maas, 41, were put on paid administrative leave right after the shooting. They both since have returned to duty.

Bray has been with the department since 2004; Maas since 1996. Both started as corrections deputies and then moved to patrol five years ago.

The Sheriff’s Department has said the shooting happened after deputies spotted John M. Hull, 31, driving erratically early on June 7. They tried to stop the truck, but Hull continued driving and eventually rammed their patrol car two times. The deputies got out of the patrol car and opened fire as Hull prepared to hit their car again, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The Sheriff’s Department and the Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the shooting.
