A 24-year-old woman pleaded guilty Friday to slashing a friend to death with a razor last year in a Tacoma apartment.
Loniesh Veasey had been charged with first-degree murder. She entered a modified guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter with a deadly weapon enhancement. She maintained her innocence but acknowledged the likelihood she’d be convicted at trial.
Pierce County Superior Court Judge Beverly Grant sentenced Veasey Friday to 10 years in prison in the death of 49-year-old Ginny “Bridget” Thomas. Tacoma police and prosecutors alleged Veasey killed Thomas inside Thomas’ apartment Feb. 12, 2011.
Veasey told police she was high on crack cocaine when she and Thomas got into an argument over the types of drugs each other used. Veasey said Thomas, who used heroin, stuck her in the palm with a syringe. Veasey said she slashed Thomas with a razor, then swapped shoes with Thomas and went to the hospital to get stitches.
She will get credit for the time she’s spent in the Pierce County Jail.
