Three local student pianists, Isaac Drews, Nocole Hwang and Reid Wolch, have been selected to perform at the Washington State Music Teachers Association State Conference, which begins today, at Western Washington University in Bellingham.
Three local student pianists, Isaac Drews, Nocole Hwang and Reid Wolch, have been selected to perform at the Washington State Music Teachers Association State Conference, which begins today, at Western Washington University in Bellingham.
Drews and Hwang were winners in the March playoffs competition and will represent the local Tacoma Chapter of the Washington State Music Teachers Association in a student representative recital. Wolch was selected by taped audition.
More than a dozen students from Richland and Hanford high schools recently qualified for the Washington State Mathematics Contest in Yakima in April.
Students from Hanford High include: Jonah Bartrand, Akhila Sriram, Ryan Wang, Sean Thompson, Beck Bartrand, Martijn Oostrom, Jacob Shelton and James Rausch.
Students from Richland High include: Jacob Halter, Sylvia Johnson, Callum Pe, Binh Tran, Mark McDonald and Andrew Um.
A former Kennewick student will be one of the designers with an outfit on the runway during a fashion show during Mom's Weekend at Washington State University's Pullman campus.
Senior Breanna Guerrero is one of 13 students of WSU's Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles taking part in the annual show.
Guerrero is one of four students who produced a garment using recycled materials, such as seed, mesh and shopping bags.
Jared Costanzo received the award from the Seattle City Club, a civic organization. He and four other winners now will vie to represent the state for the national award later this year
A Richland High School teacher has been named the top DECA adviser in the state.
Stephanie Schirm, a marketing teacher at the school, was named 2013 Advisor of the Year by Washington State DECA, which is an international organization for marketing students, according to a release.
The Richland School District said Richland High’s DECA chapter has accomplished a lot under Schirm’s guidance and her students are highly regarded for their commitment to the community.
Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman is asking fourth- and fifth grade-students to enter in the 2013 Kids' Art Contest.
The winning design will be featured in the Washington State General Election Voters' Pamphlet.
The winning artist also will receive a surprise visit from Secretary of State Wyman at his or her school.
