Two people were shot in a methamphetamine deal gone bad Monday in Parkland, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.

Three people showed up about 6 a.m. to an apartment in the 100 block of 138th Street South, where they had a prearranged meeting to make a meth deal, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. He said that account came from everyone involved and was “pretty consistent so far.”

At some point the group – two men and one woman – decided they were going to try to take the drugs with them without paying, Troyer said. The two men were armed with shotguns and exchanged fire with the 52-year-old male homeowner, he said.

The homeowner and one of the drug thieves, a 32-year-old man, were wounded and later taken to surgery. The homeowner is expected to survive, Troyer said, adding that the other man was in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

The Sheriff’s Department took the suspected female thief into custody and was looking for the second man.
