The increase in the county’s jobless rate likely is another setback for the economy after the unemployment rate had dipped briefly below 9 percent in April.

Thurston County’s unemployment rate has climbed more than a full percentage point since December, but an economist said Tuesday not to be too alarmed by the increase because it’s typical for this time of year.
Pierce County's jobless rate showed more improvement in October, falling to 8 percent last month from 8.3 percent in September, according to state Employment Security Department released Tuesday.
After unemployment rates fell in Pierce County to end 2012, the new year is not off to a good start as the jobless rate in the county rose to 9.7 percent in February from a revised 9.2 percent rate in January, new state Employment Security Department data show.
