Pierce County's jobless rate climbed in May

Pierce County’s unemployment rate once again climbed above 9 percent, rising to 9.5 percent in May from a revised 8.8 percent jobless rate in April, according to state Employment Security Department data released Tuesday.

Pierce County’s unemployment rate once again climbed above 9 percent, rising to 9.5 percent in May from a revised 8.8 percent jobless rate in April, according to state Employment Security Department data released Tuesday.

The increase in the county’s jobless rate likely is another setback for the economy after the unemployment rate had dipped briefly below 9 percent in April.
