3 pets die in Tacoma house fire while family away
Three family pets died Tuesday during a house fire in Tacoma.
Firefighters were called at 12:26 p.m. to a home in the 1200 block of South Verde Street. The homeowners were not home at the time of the blaze, which is believed to have started in the kitchen after combustibles on the stove burst into flames.
A dog and two cats were unable to escape the fire.
Damages were estimated at $50,000, Tacoma fire spokesman Joe Meinecke said.
