Chris Wondolowski scored on a penalty kick in stoppage time after an own goal had tied the game in the 83rd minute as the San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, Wednesday night in Commerce, Colo.
Colorado goalkeeper Matt Pickens caught the foot of Alan Gordon, earning Wondolowski the penalty kick. It was the 12th goal of the season and the fifth game-winning goal for Wondolowski.
Steven Lenhart had his shot from inside the penalty area stopped by Pickens before Gordon, situated in front of the goal, saw the ball come directly to him. His shot went in off defender Hunter Freeman for the own goal.
San Jose (9-3-3) peppered Pickens with high-quality chances all night.
Wondolowski played after missing two games while with the U.S. national team.
Brian Mullan scored on a header in the 18th minute for Colorado (6-8-1).
Galaxy 3, at Real Salt Lake 2: Landon Donovan scored a goal in each half to fuel a rally from a two-goal deficit as Los Angeles (5-8-2) knocked off the Western Conference leaders.
Kyle Beckerman and Alvaro Saborio scored first-half goals for RSL (10-4-2), which saw its seven-game unbeaten streak snapped.
At Dynamo 3, Toronto FC 3: Will Bruin scored twice in the second half, and Houston came back from a two-goal deficit in the final 17 minutes.
Danny Koevermans scored twice for Toronto (1-10-1), which built a 3-1 lead at halftime only to get its first draw of the season.
Houston (5-4-5) tied the game in the 90th minute on Bruin’s header.
At Chivas USA 2, Impact 1: Juan Pablo Angel scored in the 82nd minute to lead Chivas (5-7-3) past Montreal (4-8-3) for its second win at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., this season.
At Whitecaps 1, Red Bulls 1: Heath Pearce scored in the 85th minute to help New York (8-4-3) salvage a tie with Vancouver (7-3-5). Martin Bonjour scored in the 75th minute for Vancouver, which remains unbeaten in five games (2-0-3).
