A cool treat for graduating fifth-graders
Laurie Meade decided to pay it forward Wednesday.
Last Christmas, someone stole Meade’s three-wheel ice cream scooter from her driveway. A story of the theft appeared in The News Tribune.
Undaunted, she bought another scooter with the help of a $3,200 loan so she could continue her work as the Blue Jeans Ice Cream lady. Her sales take her around Pierce County, from Graham to Lakewood, and help supplement her disability payments and support her family.
On Wednesday in Parkland, Meade took her new frozen-treat vehicle to Christensen Elementary School, where her son Levi finished his last day of fifth grade.
To celebrate the move to middle school, Meade treated all the school’s fifth-graders – about 75 kids – to free ice cream.
She’s still paying off the loan. And she’s set up a website to report on her progress,
