Staff Sgt. Nicoll poses with his two-door Ford coupe near the gates of Camp Lewis on June 23, 1926. Nicoll bought his car from the Edward P. Leonard Co., South Tacoma Ford dealers, and had recently completed a 6,000-mile trip to San Antonio, Texas. He camped out nightly and slept in his car, removing the back cushion for a comfortable resting spot. A new timer was the only repair needed for the entire trip. (MARVIN D.
