The Mandolin Cafe, a popular gathering place at 3923 S. 12th St. in Tacoma, might close within the next three weeks.
Responding to questions raised by postings online, chef Emily Montgomery said Friday that “things are up in the air right now.”
She said the owner of the building has sold it to “someone who is going to make it into something different. We’re waiting to see if it actually closes.”
It is the change in ownership, and not the business climate, that has led to this, she said.
“Business has been good,” she said.
The owner of the building was in Arizona Friday and was unavailable for comment.
The cafe is known for its selection of teas, coffees, baked goods, fresh meals and an artist-friendly ambiance. If the deal closes by the end of the month, Montgomery said customers will likely have two weeks to say goodbye.
