1 dead, 2 injured when pickup truck hits tree near Bremerton

The passenger of a pickup truck was killed and another rider injured early Saturday morning when the driver of a 2006 Honda Ridgeline crashed into a tree that was alongside state Route 3 near Bremerton.

According to a Washington State Patrol report, the driver, also injured in the collision, was traveling northbound just north of Austin Drive when he fell asleep at the wheel causing the truck to swerve to the right off the highway and into the tree.

Both injured men were transported to the Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with the passenger being transfered on to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The other rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

All three occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts the report said.
