State Department of Natural Resources staffers will present a preliminary plan for a mooring buoy layout on state-owned aquatic lands in Quartermaster Harbor at a workshop Wednesday.
The proposed buoy plan incorporates input from the May 31 public meeting – at which nearly 80 people attended – and also is based on data from underwater and above-water surveys.
Staffers will provide an update on the proposal, seek additional input from boaters and members of the public and present information about the condition of existing buoys from dive surveys conducted in Burton and Dockton.
Properly locating buoys will promote safer navigational conditions for recreational boaters and reduce the scouring of sediments that disturbs potential herring spawning habitat, said a news release.
The workshop will be from 7-9 p.m. at McMurray Middle School, 9329 S.W. Cemetery Road, Vashon.
