Tacoma Police awarded $5 million grant to save 15 officers’ jobs

The Tacoma Police Department has won a nearly $5 million federal grant to fund 15 police officers, according to a press release issued today by U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan‘s office.

The $4.957 million Community Orienting Policing (COPS) grant will cover the city’s costs for keeping 15 police officers now on staff in Tacoma Police uniforms for the next three years. By accepting the grant, the city must agree to cover the officers’ costs for a fourth year.
