A private memorial service for Nick Hall will be held Friday morning at the Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise.
The service will be from 10 a.m. to noon. It will be for family, Mount Rainier National Park co-workers, park partners such as mountain rescue units and Hall’s friends from places like Stevens Pass.
“We can’t invite the broader public like we did for Margaret" Anderson, said park superintendent Randy King. “We just don’t have the facilities.”
The January memorial for Anderson, a park law enforcement ranger shot and killed on Jan. 1, drew thousands of attendees, including numerous law enforcement officers, to services at Pacific Lutheran University.
King said Friday’s memorial will not be a formal law enforcement service, but will reflect the family’s desire to honor the 33-year-old Hall and his love of the outdoors.
King said the visitor center will be closed all morning, to allow park staff to prepare the center. But the rest of the Paradise area will remain open and rangers will be at the Paradise Ranger Station to provide information and answer questions.
