100 YEARS AGO TODAY: JUNE 29, 1912
It is hoped the new administration building for the Masonic home at Puyallup will be constructed within a year and be ready for dedication by the grand lodge next June. The trustees yesterday adopted the plans submitted by Heath & Gove, which met with general approval.
75 YEARS AGO TODAY: JUNE 29, 1937
The full official program for Tacoma’s 1937 Fleet Week, July 19 to 28, will include a round of club luncheons, receptions by and for officers, dances, golf and entertainment for men and officers. The public events will feature band concerts and searchlight displays by the men of the Navy, as well as baseball games, the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce has announced.
50 YEARS AGO TODAY: JUNE 29, 1962
The two P’s – People and Pocketbook – have the big sachems of the Seattle World’s Fair laughing all the way to the bank. Attendance and revenue during the first two months of the 184-day exposition have run well ahead of expectations. And barring the totally unexpected, this will be the first world’s fair in history to show a profit on an operation of a year or less.
