A motorhome out for a test drive Friday afternoon crashed into a Federal Way house after a reported mechanical failure caused the 34-year-old driver to lose control of the vehicle.

According to a South King Fire and Rescue report, the male driver, who suffered a head laceration, was able to remove himself from the wrecked motorhome at which point he was found wandering the neighborhood looking for help. He was later transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

No one was home and there were no witnesses at the time of the accident.

The surrounding neighborhood had to be evacuated due to the motorhome severing the house's natural gas meter which released high-pressured gas into the air. Puget Sound Energy came to the scene and was able to secure the leaking pipe.

The Federal Way Police Department is investigating the crash.
