PUYALLUP: Man shot after fight with neighbor

A Puyallup man suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday night after a neighbor shot him in the abdomen during a dispute in the parking lot of their apartment building, Puyallup police said Thursday.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 900 block of Ninth Street Southeast about 11:30 p.m., Capt. Dave McDonald said.

The 26-year-old victim was treated by Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and taken to Tacoma General Hospital. He was in serious condition in the intensive care unit Thursday, McDonald said.

The two men, who did not know each other, were getting home from Fourth of July festivities when they got into a dispute that escalated into the shooting, McDonald said. The victim’s girlfriend tried to call 911, at which point the shooter grabbed her cellphone, McDonald said.

Police arrested the second man after he ran away but returned to the scene about an hour later.

The 32-year-old suspect was booked into Pierce County Jail on Thursday, and was expected to be charged with assault in the first degree and robbery today, McDonald said.
