With forecasts predicting no rain and temperatures in the 70s or higher through next week, conditions are perfect for a little fishing.
SALT WATER
Crabbing: Get your crab pots ready for July 9, the last Monday crabbing will be allowed this summer. Starting next week crabbing will only be allowed Thursdays-Sundays until Sept. 3. However, its been quiet with the best action near Dash and Browns points.
North Sound: The area doesn’t open for king salmon fishing until July 16. Until then coho are biting.
Sekiu: Olson’s Resort staff reports good fishing in the area for kings and silvers.
South Sound: Fishing and crabbing have been slow in the area.
Tacoma: The staff at Point Defiance Boathouse Marina reports fishing in the area “is a little on the slow side.” Mooching, jigging and trolling flashers and spoons at a depth of 120-200 feet is good for some fish. They expect fishing to pick up the next few days as tides become milder.
LAKES
American: Fishing guide Mike Barr of Bill’s Boathouse says trout are biting a lot and bass are biting occasionally. Kokanee and perch fishing have been slow.
Black: Dough bait is recommended.
Chelan: Anton Jones of Darrell & Dad’s Family Guide Service says trolling for trout near the bar early in the morning is the way to go. Later in the morning, move to the trench. Kokanee are biting at the Narrows.
Potholes: Nick Barr of MarDon Resort says “trout fishing has been absolutely amazing the past few weeks. ... The bass has been steady too.”
Spanaway: Bud Herlitzka of the Spanaway Park Boat House suggested earlier this week that fishing the south end is the way to go. He said anglers are catching browns, but few are reaching their limit. Morning, before the wakeboarders take to the lake, is the best time.
Stevens: Kokanee are biting at 50-70 feet.
Tanwax: Rainbow Resort says Crappie and bass fishing is picking up, and dock anglers are catching trout and perch. For the best chance try trolling with Wedding Rings and worms.
RIVERS
Columbia: The white sturgeon retention fishery closed Thursday and anglers must release all sturgeon caught in the Columbia River estuary. The fishery was originally supposed to close Sunday, but anglers have caught more fish than expected.
Cowlitz: Fishing has been good this week, according to at least one report on WashingtonLakes.com.
Icicle Creek: Action has been heating up near Leavenworth, according to WashingtonLakes.com.
Skagit: Sockeye fishing has been good.
Skykomish: Anglers are doing well landing summer-run steelhead.
