    BELLINGHAM - A pipeline company will conduct a drill Tuesday, June 4, in Whatcom Creek downstream of the Maritime Heritage Park fish hatchery to test how well it responds to an oil spill.

    Kinder Morgan will do the test in conjunction with Washington state Department of Ecology. Kinder Morgan operates the Trans Mountain pipeline, which goes through Bellingham.

    No oil will be released during the drill, which will run noon to 4:30 p.m., according to a Kinder Morgan news release.

    The Oil Spill Containment and Response Team from Kinder Morgan set up booms along the creek to simulate how they would stop spilled oil from spreading down the creek.

    Meanwhile, a Marine Spill Response Corp. team from Bellingham placed booms in Bellingham Bay at the mouth of the creek.
