Left-hander Mauricio Robles opened the season in Tacoma’s starting rotation, but the 23-year-old struggled with his control and was demoted to Jackson, where he was moved to the bullpen.
It appears that the bullpen suits Robles. After walking 22 and allowing 23 runs in 21 innings as a starter for Tacoma, Robles is getting good results in relief.
Robles has allowed just one run in his last 18 innings for Jackson, spanning 13 games. He’s given up just four hits while walking eight and striking out 18 during the stretch.
Robles still has a spot on the Mariners’ 40-man roster.
