A 17-year-old boy who nearly drowned in a Federal Way lake on Friday died Saturday.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the teen as Prabhakar Kumar.

Someone called 911 about 8:15 p.m. Friday to report a swimmer struggling offshore at Steel Lake Park in the 2400 block of South 312th Street.

A water rescue team arrived within nine minutes and found the teen after one minute of searching, South King Fire & Rescue said. He was in 12 feet of water.

Kumar was brought to shore, and paramedics worked to resuscitate him before taking him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
