Plato’s Closet, a clothing consignment store for teens and 20-somethings, will open this week in Tacoma’s Lincoln Plaza.
Nancy Jornlin of University Place is betting on fashion- and money-savvy young adults to make the national franchise a success. The store, opening Thursday at 2505 S. 38th St. across from Costco, specializes in that demographic’s clothing and accessories.
Unlike a typical consignment store, no appointment is necessary to sell clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet. The store pays cash for what people bring in. Jornlin wants new styles – those that have been in retail stores within the past 12 to 18 months, according to a news release. “We don’t try to create new fashion trends, we respond to actual trends in a timely and value-oriented manner,” Jornlin said in the release.
Plato’s Closet’s parent company, Winmark Corp., also franchises Play It Again Sports, Once Upon A Child and Music Go Round. According to the news release, Winmark plans more than 30 additional franchise locations in Washington in the coming years.
