Katie Zech, creative director with Highstreet Advertising Inc. in Puyallup, has earned the 2012 Award of Distinction for the firm. The International Academy of the Visual Arts presented the award for its print brochure titled “I am strong enough …” featuring Annie Wright Schools. The Distinction Award, part of the Communicator Awards, is judged and overseen by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an organization of more than 550 leading professionals.

Zech was recognized for the concept and design of the brochure.

Joseph Newman, financial associate with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, has been elected president of the South Puget Sound Association of the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors. He will serve as president for the coming year.

Dr. John Walstrum, president of Clover Park Technical College, has been appointed to the Commission on Economic and Workforce Development with the American Association of Community Colleges. This commission acts in an advisory capacity to the association’s board of directors.
