The Labor Department says federal criminal and civil probes led it to investigate possible data leaks and restrict the release of economic data.
The department posted a report on its website Tuesday detailing security flaws in the room where reporters receive early copies of the government’s monthly jobs report. The report says journalists could sidestep security and leak the data early. That could allow recipients to make money by trading improperly on the information. Access was revoked for several news outlets that serve high-frequency stock traders.
