Vehicle hits building during police pursuit in Tacoma

A vehicle ran off the road and into a building Monday as officers tried to pull the driver over for reckless driving, Tacoma police said Tuesday.

The driver hit the building in the 4300 block of South Pine Street about 8:30 p.m., police said.

A passenger who was not wearing a seat belt hit the windshield and suffered facial injuries. The driver suffered minor injuries from the airbag deploying.

Police arrested the driver for vehicular assault and booked him into the Pierce County Jail. Officers also found a stolen handgun in the car.

The building sustained significant damage and was inspected by fire officials before people were allowed to return inside.
