A Tacoma store lost about $35,000 worth of fishing reels and rods last month in its second burglary since opening 18 months ago, its owner says.

Puget Sound Fly Co. was burglarized about six months after moving to 6001 Tacoma Mall Blvd. from Kent, owner Anil Srivastava said. That time he lost about the same amount of merchandise as his second break-in on June 22, he added.

In the latest break-in, the burglars apparently entered just after midnight through an adjacent, vacant store by breaking through the wall, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

Srivastava said the thieves took about 30 rods, 40 reels, 15 spare spools and $800 in cash. The first quote he got for the cost of repairing the wall was about $1,200.

He expects insurance to cover the costs, but he’s concerned about future burglaries.

“It certainly affects our ability to do business immediately after the break-in,” he said. “Plus you worry that the insurance might drop you or your rates will go up, and you can’t operate without insurance.”

Fulghum said police are investigating, and that it’s unknown whether the same burglars broke into the store.
