The board of directors of the Tacoma Regional Convention & Visitor Bureau board has announced that Adriatic Grill owner Monique Trudnowski has been named as board chairwoman for the remainder of 2012.
Trudnowski rose to the position in July after the bureau’s previous board leader, Shelly Schlumpf, stepped down from the position to run as a candidate for public office.
Schlumpf remains as president and CEO of the Puyallup Sumner Chamber of Commerce, and will remain a member of the regional board.
“Shelly has done a lot for the tourism community in the five years she’s served on the board and I am eager to follow in her footsteps,” Trudnowski said in a bureau release. “We are lucky to continue to have her as an advocate for tourism.”
As board chairwoman, Trudnowski said she intends to steer the regional bureau toward increased community engagement.
“Tourism brings dollars to our local economy, creates jobs and fuels the pride we have in our destination,” she said.
“The more I can advocate for the industry, the stronger we will be.”
The bureau board consists of 24 tourism leaders from Pierce County, and is a policy-making body that oversees the organization’s operations.
