Janet Keating tabbed to lead White River district

Janel Keating is the new superintendent of the White River School District.

Keating, who has been the district’s deputy superintendent for the past seven years and has worked for the district for 15 years, succeeds Tom Lockyer, who retired.

Keating became superintendent July 1.

Keating has earned praise from both the School Board and teachers in the district for building a culture of collaboration among staff members, boosting test scores and high school graduation rates, along with making academic improvements. They cite her hands-on style and accessibility as positives.

The school district has not named a replacement deputy superintendent. Instead, White River High School Principal Mike Hagadone will become director of secondary education and principal on special assignment. He’ll help with the transition to new leadership at the high school. Former assistant principal Lainey Mathews will move into the role of principal there.
