A Kent man accused of shooting another man who tried to intervene in a neighborhood dispute July 8 was booked into jail Monday.
Wendall Oliver Adams Jr., 26, was charged with first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm, King County prosecutors said.
The shooting happened about 1 p.m. when a man in his 20s was wounded in the 22400 block of Benson Road Southeast after speaking with Adams, prosecutors say.
According to charging papers, the victim’s godmother told police she asked him to contact Adams, because she suspected Adams had taken her car.
Witnesses told police Adams came out of his apartment and shot the victim after he told Adams the woman wanted to speak with him. Adams then took off running, witnesses said.
The victim was treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening.
Adams was convicted of first-degree robbery in 2006 in King County and has eight other felony convictions.
