Tacoma police on Monday were searching for a man who forced a woman into Ryan’s Park early Sunday and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint.

The attack occurred at 1:40 a.m. while the woman was walking in the area of South 80th and D streets, police said.

She told officers a man with a knife approached her on foot and forced her into the park, where he raped her. She said she was able to hit her attacker and he dropped the knife, enabling her to escape.

Police said the woman provided a general description of the man and a license plate.
