Officers were called about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday to Heritage Condominiums, 117 S. 340th Place, after a report of an assault.

After the suspect ignored orders to surrender and officers identified him as someone who had threatened police in the past, the tactical team was summoned and building occupants were moved out. Kyu-Chang Park, 47, was taken into custody about 1:30 p.m.

Officers used a public address system, flash bang grenades, gas and a dog, police said. Park was apprehended after the door was forced open and the dog sent in. Park was hospitalized for minor injuries and a mental evaluation, police said.

He’s expected to be arrested upon his release from the hospital. He already faces an attempted arson charge for allegedly setting his mattress on fire in his Tacoma apartment Feb. 9.
