Former firefighter John Moncrief, 59, died from cancer late Saturday night, which South King Fire and Rescue said will be recognized as a Line of Duty Death.
The cancer was the result of exposure to combustion-related toxins throughout Moncrief’s 22-year career, South King fire said.

A Kent firefighter died of brain cancer Sunday night, the department announced this morning.
Alert tones echoed as the voice of Olympia Fire Battalion Chief Doug Hewell came over the radio. The call sent four fire engines, a ladder truck, battalion chief and medic unit to a two-story home with smoke billowing from the roof.
