2nd day of Air Expo at Lewis-McChord attended by 45,000

Attendance was down Sunday at Air Expo 2012, which meant the avoidance of long traffic backups that caught many leaving the show Saturday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Sunday saw about 45,000 attendees, compared with about 100,000 Saturday, said base spokesman Joe Kubistek.

“It seemed like people had a relatively easy time … departing the air show,” Kubistek said about Sunday’s traffic. “I think probably the biggest factor was that the crowd attendance was lighter today. The appearance that it was going to be a little wetter out there today may have deterred some people from going out.”

Some visitors took as long as three hours of stop-and-go traffic to reach the base’s gates Saturday.

Kubistek said he wasn’t aware of any backups Sunday.
