An 8-year-old boy was hit and killed Sunday while riding his bicycle in Federal Way.

Police were called about 8 p.m. to the 2400 block of Southwest 333rd Street and found the injured child. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he later was pronounced dead.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was pedaling north on 24th Avenue South and turning onto Southwest 333rd Street when an SUV heading east on Southwest 333rd Street hit him, police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said.

The SUV was not going fast and its driver did not see the boy enter the intersection because of a parked car, she said. She said the driver did not appear impaired, and “there is no evidence to suggest any crime or negligent driving on behalf of the driver.”
