A man was arrested Monday after he allegedly sent a 12-year-old boy sexually explicit texts.

According to court papers:

Lacey police arrested Benjamin James Davis, 20, after an officer found text messages from Davis on the 12-year-old’s cellphone that were “sexual in nature.” One message included an offer to perform a sex act; another requested a “date” with the boy.

A judge ordered Davis held on suspicion of communication with a minor for immoral purposes during a court hearing Tuesday in Olympia and set bail at $2,500.

Police were dispatched to a Lacey comic book and card game store after Davis allegedly hit the boy in the eye during a dispute.

The boy said he met Davis about a month ago at a graduation party.

When police interviewed Davis, he said the text messages on the boy’s phone “were done in jest.” He said he’d never made sexual advances toward the boy or asked for sex.
