A suspected pipe bomb found outside a Tacoma Public Schools building was not an explosive, police said Tuesday.

The capped pipe was found about 4:30 p.m. Monday outside the Professional Development Center at 6501 N. 23rd St.

Tacoma police rendered the device safe, then determined Tuesday that it was not explosive, spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

“It was something that had been out in the weather for a while,” he added.
