Mexico’s largest airline, Aeromexico, announced on Wednesday it has ordered 100 Boeing jetliners worth $11 billion at list prices.
The order consists of 90 737 Max 8 aircraft and 10 new-technology 787-9 Dreamliners.
The new order is in addition to nine 787s the company had previously announced and 10 present generation 737s the airline has on order.
The first 787s will be delivered to Aeromexico in 2013 and the first 737 Max aircraft in 2018. The 737 Max is an updated version of the world’s most popular jetliner.
The Max will have new engines and aerodynamic improvements to boost the 737 fuel-efficiency by some 13 percent.
Aeromexico has grown its business briskly since the bankruptcy of its biggest rival, Mexicana, two years ago. The airline flies to 32 international destinations.
