Olympia man shot in leg; alleged shooter jailed

A 26-year-old Olympia man was arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail on Saturday afternoon after he allegedly shot another man in the leg, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Richard Jenks, 26, was arrested on suspicion of assault in the first degree and unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree. The alleged shooting took place about 4:30 p.m., following an altercation in the 1300 block of Warner Street N.E. in Olympia.

The alleged victim, a 40-year-old Olympia man, sustained a nonlife-threatening single gunshot wound to the leg from a semi-automatic pistol, Thurston County sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Clark said.

The man was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital. His name was not immediately available.
