Son of Buckley councilman pleads guilty to tampering with a witness in father's child-rape case

STACIA GLENN

The son of a Buckley city councilman has pleaded guilty to tampering with a witness in the first-degree child rape case against his father.

Travis Reed, 31, entered the plea July 19. Pierce County Superior Court Judge John McCarthy sentenced him to six months of community custody and ordered him not to have contact with the victim.

Reed acknowledged sending a text message to the victim’s mother last year offering to pay $200 a month until the girl turned 18 if she would drop charges against his father, Randy Reed.

The woman reported him to police.

Randy Reed pleaded not guilty in September to charges he sexually abused a 7-year-old girl. He has served on the City Council for 18 years and his term expires Dec. 31, 2013.
