Gov. Chris Gregoire ordered Wednesday that flags be lowered to half-staff Friday for state diver David D. Scheinost of Puyallup.

The 24-year-old geoduck-compliance diver died July 24 on the job near Bainbridge Island.

He went missing while diving to sample for paralytic shellfish poisoning as part of his job with the Department of Natural Resources.

Scheinost’s body was recovered three days later, close to where he disappeared.

Flags at state agency buildings will be lowered to half-staff until the close of business Friday.

A funeral will be held Sunday.
