The Mason County coroner has determined that a man pulled unresponsive from Spencer Lake on Sunday did not drown.

John E. Eads, 60, of Puyallup died of natural causes, most likely a cardiac event, according to Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell.

Eads, a retired sergeant for Puyallup police, had been wakeboarding when he became unresponsive. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he died at the scene.
