The man who drowned Sunday in Lake Tapps was identified Monday as a 19-year-old Kent resident.

Marcus Weekly was swimming at North Park when he went under about 5:20 p.m.

Divers from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and East Pierce Fire & Rescue pulled Weekly from the bottom of the lake. Officials said he was underwater for more than 15 minutes before he was rescued.

Weekly was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 9:30 p.m.

It’s unclear what caused him to slip beneath the surface.
