A 15-year-old boy pulled from Steel Lake in Federal Way on Sunday later died at the hospital, South King Fire and Rescue spokesman Gordie Olson said Monday.

The boy had not yet been identified by medical examiners Monday.

He was dangling his feet over the side of the dock before he slid into the water and went under, his friends told police. Officials were called to the scene about 2:15 p.m.

One of the victim’s friends told Federal Way police she didn’t think the teen was a strong swimmer, because she had heard him ask how to kick in the water and say he couldn’t float.

A vigil was scheduled for Monday evening at Federal Way High School, where the boy was a student, the Federal Way Mirror reported.
