A Lakewood woman remained in critical condition Tuesday, a week after authorities say her boyfriend attacked her in the motel room where they lived.
Lester Mathison, 62, pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault Monday. Pierce County Commissioner Craig Adams set his bail at $250,000 and ordered Mathison not to have contact with the woman.
She remained on a ventilator at St. Joseph Medical Center after undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot in her head. Authorities said they were not sure whether she will survive her injuries.
In addition to the blood clot, she also suffered multiple bruises on her legs, arms, right shoulder and above both eyes.
The attack happened Wednesday at a motel in the 12800 block of Pacific Highway Southwest.
According to charging papers:
Mathison called his girlfriend’s mother to say he couldn’t wake her up. When the mother arrived, she found her daughter naked on the floor and covered with a sheet. She was lying in a pool of urine, had blood under her nose and appeared to be foaming at the mouth.
Mathison called 911 and police were sent. He told officers he’d head-butted his girlfriend and punched and kicked her during a fight.
